Atelier JV worked with Taylor Robinson Architects on this exciting project in the heart of the Beaufort Street strip which involved the conversion of old retail premises into an open-air laneway. This project won the Urban Design Award in the 2017 WA Architecture Awards.

The concept of the laneway was to foster a sense of community and creativity with a new urban precinct which celebrates the history and character of the Mount Lawley location. The new alfresco area was designed to preserve and retain features of the existing buildings such as the timber roof trusses, and the existing brick walls were retained with new structural frames seamlessly nestled in to support the new façade. The finished project allows flexibility for the food, beverage and retail tenancies to open onto the laneway and encourages access through the rear carpark and Beaufort St.
